Sylla & Partners’ assistance to the Government of Guinea initially consisted of the preparation and implementation, during the preceding year, of the tender documentation and the conduct of the tender process (Phase I). It subsequently involved assistance with the preparation, negotiation, and conclusion of a mining convention signed on 8 June 2020, as well as the railway and port conventions signed on 12 November 2020 (Phase II). Taken together, these three conventions constitute the legal framework applicable to the Simandou North project.

It should be noted that this project is the largest mining and infrastructure project across the African continent and will unlock the potential of one of the world’s largest high-grade iron ore deposits. The assistance was jointly provided by Phanar Legal, a London-based law firm, and Sylla & Partners, the Guinean law firm.

The Sylla & Partners team was led by Mohamed Sidiki Sylla, assisted by Pierre Kodjo Avode, Madigbè Kaba, Alpha Toubab Millimono, and Watta Kamano.
